Welcome to Arsenal, where LBs are really just backup CBs.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
We should sign Ricardo Rodriguez as our new CB, that guy's pretty good.

John Stones getting ruined by some Celta Vigo scrub.
Fabian Schar >>>>>
Btw I rate both of them but don't think we need either of them. We need a left sided CB, and I haven't seen them play LCB (maybe they can play that role but I've not seen it).
I know people will argue that it is irrelevant whether he plays LCB or RCB but I disagree, Koscielny is a different level when he plays LCB for example, and why Mertesacker-Monreal is better than Chambers-Mertesacker.
We need a LCB because we got Chambers who is backup for Mertesacker but we've got no senior backup for Koscielny. Of course it would help if said CB can play both LCB and RCB equally well.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
Various rumblings about us going after an unhappy Moutinho. He'd presumably be a long term successor to Arteta, ie a calm organized passer. Not a natural or traditional DM.
Granted the credibility of the rumor is super low but it's along the lines of the kind of counterintuitive move Wenger sometimes makes. So it is an interesting thing to consider, even if just hypothetically.

Moutinho is very good, not what we need but better than Arteta and Flamini in that role. I'd take him right now considering Arteta can't complete a full 90 anymore and Flamini is hopeless.

Would hope for someone more physically imposing than Moutinho. Would be quite happy to have a competent distributor like him but would like to think that we'd be able to find those type of qualities in someone stronger.

Need to rescue Kondogbia from Monaco
Would love Moutinho as well.
Can't wait till Flamini starts in R16 against Madrid

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
I like Moutinho and rate him highly, but at 5 ft. 6 inches not what we need against physical EPL teams. We need real presence in midfield and no way Wenger would drop 25m for Moutinho.
Wenger has Diaby, Arteta and Flamini, more than enough to compete for 4th place trophy. If Kim Kalstrom is injured we might look him up again.
Kondogbia and Hummels would be perfect signing, but as always Wenger will be looking for loans.

If he was injured and need a father figure, Wenger would easily pay 25m.

He is average everytime I watched Portugal, tidy player similar to Arteta, not exactly what we need. Maybe he does better for club.

How about Mcdonald Mariga ?
He is strong, built like a brick, can tackle and he is cheap as a packet of crips. He will make sure our technical midgets don't get bullied anymore.

Double NO, one of my favorite players since I'm Parma supporter but dude is perma crooked, way to risky. Parma got him for free this year and havent played a single game, his brother on the other hand. Still prefer Schneiderlin over his brother if we can lure one of Soton players.

Mariga can come in and do a job like Kalstrom did last year and he can also play centre half. Its a no brainer
Morgan isn't leaving in January, we will get him for free during the summer unless he signs a new deal.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
He's not fit to play in another month at least, none of Parma supporters know how he plays now since the last time he's on the pitch was 1.5 years ago. I would take Aqquah who's main man for bottom of table team from Parma over him. Heck I would take Kallstorm again. Simply put he's broken about the same level as Diably.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2853616/Arsenal-spend-January-ease-growing-injury-problems-vows-manager-Arsene-Wenger.html#ixzz3KRGyZCb4Wenger ‘In January we will try to get at least one body in. You have to give us time. We do our job as always. This season we bought five players who are all top quality so I think we have done really well, we will try to repeat that.
‘To buy football players is not to go into a supermarket and just say, “I want to buy a right back or a centre back”. It’s to find the right quality.
‘If you go out tomorrow you will see that everybody looks for the same positions. It’s not as simple as it looks.
‘In January it makes it even more difficult because players are even less available than in June or July. But we will try to be creative and have one or two good ideas.’
‘We have gone through a period where we are very short. But January might be a month when we have nearly everybody back.

Hope so.
Links with Yohan Cabaye from the Telegraph. Kind of the same as the Moutinho links for me.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
Cabaye and Moutinho are both useful players and deserve to play at a top club. Not sure it would resolve our lack of steel in midfield much, but it would allow Flamini/Arteta to get phased out as they get up in age.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
We should have signed Cabaye back when that clown Flamini came back but we choose the cheaper route. I'd like us to sign Cabaye in January but only if he's available on loan otherwise that ship has sailed. Moutinho... not needed and not good enough.
Khedira and Schneiderlin in the summer if possible, no need to fill the squad with average players.

Re: The Official Winter Transfer Rumours Thread
More crap rumors. Sorry everyone, I know these stories are pointless, but I think it's a little fun to keep tabs on this junk, regardless.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-news-transfers-15million-moussa-4721956
Moussa Sissoko, James McCarthy, and (again) Tyrone Mings--"if they can't get Mats Hummels."
All of those guys would actually be decent signings on their own terms, although none would really bring the squad to the next level.
Unless, of course, we ever got Hummels, which would immediately bench one of Mertescielny.
Also, Arsenal "join the race" for Varane:
https://metro.co.uk/2014/11/29/arsenal-join-chelsea-and-manchester-united-in-transfer-race-for-real-madrids-raphael-varane-4967163/
The story might be speculated into existence from Wenger's recent, non-committal comments about Varane (see them here: http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/536466/Arsene-Wenger-Raphael-Varane-Chelsea-Manchester-United)
