PS : Messi has performed at such high level that the only way for him to win individual awards again is to win CL. he can score 100 goals and be the best at every single game and still it is the CL winner who is going to win it.

Also how is winning the champions league greater than winning the world cup? Griezeman should be on that list ahead of Salah, for winning Europa, Super Cup, and World Cup to Salahs zero trophies. If Salah should be on that list just for performances then Messi should be on ahead of him

Salah was the best player in the world over the last year by a considerable margin, clear as a summer day. IDGAF about him winning no trophies.

Only a few months ago, the common consensus seemed to be that Salah had warranted being called the best player in the world, purely based on performance and consistency.

Salah had an incredible season, but it seems Messis ridiculous game has been at such a consistently high level every one is now Meh with it. Modric was great at the world cup and won the ucl, but i dont get how someone should win an award for being the best if they didnt win a single trophy out of 5 tournaments a guy played in. Winning the World Cup should matter a ton

while i was thinking about, another way to look at things is the fact that Salah in EPL and Champions, was much stronger as a performer than Griezmann in La liga and Europa league. Even without a trophy (and it's laughable to mention the supercup) Salah was far better.

In the world cup, Salah had no chance to win it with Egypt, while Griezmann did not exactly set the world cup on fire with his performances. He was good but not outstanding.

So we are penalizing Salah because he is egyptian? if he was french he would be a world champion too.

anyway, there is no absolute truth with these things.

Messi was the best player in the world when it came to domestic league performances. He lead every statistical category and Barca didn't lose a single game he was involved in. He practically lead them to a double when most thought they'd have a bad year due to the sale of Neymar.

If any other player had those circumstances they'd be a potential favourite, while Leo doesn't even make it to the top 3 lmao. He's become a victim of his own success.
