don't need any midfield / attack except possibly Neymar for the next couple of seasons.

Gotze can easily play the Messi role, remember that Messi wasn't the scorer he is now at 19-20.

Messi was also a winger.
Who cares though if he can play that role, Messi rarely gets injured or misses a game. Gotze is better off in another team.

Messi at 19 and playing as a winger was scoring consistently more than 10 goals per season. Gotze scores 5. Off course he can improve, but I don't see him as a forward for us. Anyway, a comparison with Messi is unfair to anyone, however, Gotze lacks goal to be a forward for us currently.

Reus is a good player, but we don't really need him, he is not better than Pedro, Villa or Alexis. And we have Tello, Cuenca and Deulofeu either.

Well he is not really a midfielder. He is a 10.And he is an elite talent.Barring any major surprises he will become an elite player.Lately I have been wrong about some young players but Gotze seems as safe a bet as any.
More importantly the point was that we shouldnt make the same mistakes we have done in the recent past.Focus on just one player thereby missing out on other players.
If an elite talent like Gotze is available, then we should go for it.For a talent like him there can always be place in the side.
I believe he can play forward. He certainly has the characteristics.
free,He has scored 4 goals in the Bundesliga this season,so he certainly can score them.Besides he is 20.Can always add more goals to his game.
Also think he can play the Iniesta role. Not sure but would be good to try it.
IMO,if an elite talent like Gotze is available, then we jump.It seems much more sensible to me than Neymar.

Reus is a very good player too,but of the two its Gotze every day for me.

Okay, let me rephrase. I dont like non forwards playing as forwards and I dont think Gotze is a forward. Doesnt have natural goal instincts and doesnt get into goalscoring positions often enough in my opinion. He aint ever going to have a 25 goal season in my opinion.

I dont think he will ever be readily available anyways and hardly for any less than Neymar, who I personally prefer because he is a great finisher. Forget the dribbling, the finishing alone is mighty impressive.

Reus is better than Alexis Free.....

He is probably more well rounded than Pedro with more pace and worse movement and finishing.

As i said before he reminds me of a Young Villa he will be a great player and Barca want a forward for one reason and one reason only.... replace Villa long term.

But alas Neymar seems the one Barca want and i can see why.

If someone offers 20+M for Alexis we should sell him !

I gave up on him !
Yes he's a hard worker... but he's dribbling and finishing sucks and he's not improving....

I agree i do think he has a lot of talent but i don't feel he is suited to a team like Barca he always performs for Chile and always did for Udinese i just think needs a team that use counter attacks and operate in open spaces.

If Barca sign Neymar i would of thought Sanchez would make way.

Since we are discussing Neymar and other forward options for next season, how about Suarez?
It will be difficult to pry him away from Liverpool but if we express interest I believe he would be interested. It would take around 40 to get him but he is well worth it.
Neymar for 60 or Suarez for 40 or less.I would always take Suarez. He is a player I have always admired ever since we were first interested in him back during his Ajax days.
A player tailor made for us.A Suarez-Messi-Pedro front line would be deadly.

I wouldn't want to see him at Barca because of his poor reputation and lack of effectiveness up front - but I do think he would succeed here. Either way I'm pretty sure we'll have Nerman-induced tunnel vision next transfer season.

Lack of effectivenesss upfront.I assume you are referring to his not so great finishing.Because other than that he is as effective as any froward on the planet barring Messi. He is carrying Liverpool's attack on his own and doing a mighty fine job of it.
He can draw the attention of 2,3 defenders, can dribble multiple defenders, has terrific movement,is very versatile and can play across the front line to equal effect and is a good passer. In short he is the perfect forward for us.
His finishing can be explained by his present situation. He is a one man army for Liverpool and feels the need to do too much sometimes. This leads to him being anxious while finishing. For us he wouldnt have that same pressure and we would see better returns.
Even then he has scored 10 goals this season.Extremely good considering the circumstances.

You're a fan of OM, so what's your take on N'Koulou?...I have had to watch several matches of late to get a better feel for him and can't decide really if he's Barça quality

I would prefer Yanga-Mbiwa for Barcelona because of his better ball playing skills but N'Koulou is just as good. However I wasn't impressed by his performances for Cameroon. Recently many good Ligue 1 players have turned out to be flops in better leagues.

Also watch out for Kurt Zouma. He's 17 but he has talent and a good reader of the game. I've only watched a couple of matches of him but he works so hard for his team. I think him and Varane will form France's backline in the future.

Also Chamakh wasn't even good in France, his goal record was abysmal....

50 in 300 games is horrible now matter how you twist it.

Ligue 1 players more often than not if they are actually good will perform in almost any league.

Hell our success is based on buying Ligue 1 players Laughing

Well true, I was going to say he wasnt even good for long. But to be honest, he was pretty good in his last year, monsterous in the air and a more assertive player.

Anyway, yeah I agree, when I think of Ligue 1 I think of a somewhat underrated league where players seem to do pretty well in other places.

I completely agree with Alex. In terms of players up front, there is no player I would rather have than Suarez. Wanted him the Ajax days, still want him now. I don't see it happening, but it's a thought I like to entertain myself with.

He would be nothing short of fantastic with us. I'm pretty much accepting it's going to be Neymar at this point, and I'm OK with that too, I think he can be great with us as well.

As far as Arsenal is concerned, none of Chamakh, Gervinho or Giroud lived up to expectations. In fact not even close. Koscielny has done well but even he had a very bad first season.

Also being good for Newcastle doesn't mean anything, no offence.

Haven't watched Hazard a lot but considering he was the best player in Ligue 1 for straight years I was expecting more of him. He hasn't had a lot of time to adapt, in his defence.

Horrible list.

Gervinho hasnt done well, but so far this season he has had moments where he has looked as good as he did in France. Especially as a 9.

For both him and Giroud, you have to surely hold off judgement for the time being. Giroun has looked very good the last few games also.

Koscienly has been better than anyone expected, dont know how you can list him.

Hazard has just arrived.......and he has been pretty good for all reckoning.

Gervinho has had his moments? lol Yeah, about 10x more frustrating moments than good ones I can tell you. His decision making in the final third is awful. The guy has speed and technique but absolutely no brain whatsoever. And topping it up with his abysmal finishing.

Giroud, Ligue 1 top scorer, apparently an aerial threat. The guy has missed more open goals than not so far and can barely get his head to the ball.
