Stunning visuals and score as you would expect.
Story was a bit strange at times. Characters too.
- Spoiler:
Going to disagree with the Kylo arc. His character development was great in TFA but it was a bit shit in this one. He went back to being a little bitch at the end. Almost like his character didn't really develop at all.
Please explain how he didn't have any arc. He started out scared and emotional after murdering his father in this and hiding his pain. That was the start point of the film. He then embraced his pain and tricked Rey somewhat into coming to "save" him from the dark side without ever turning. He then killed his master and seized power by himself, because he saw the chance to never he second again. Something all sith has to do at one point to reach the final step in their training.
It's the rule of 2. It's what keeps the Sith strong, the constant usurping going on. Kylo killing Snoke showed how much he had evolved emotionally since the beginning of the film. At the end when he finally saw Luke he saw his last chance to kill his past and his "hubris" resulted in him not killing the entire rebellion. It totally fit his character and showed he was consistent,
despite developing much more than before. He would've never made the choices he did with Snoke if he was still Kylo
from the beginning of the film. His relationship with Rey helped him see his true potential as a manipulator and future Darth.
Also snoke who is supposed to be the great supreme leader dying that easily. Seems legit.
Again. Hubris of sith and jedi has been set up through the entire movie and it eventually becamse the ending of Snoke. He was so confident in having Kylo "caged" just like Hux. But it ended him.
Finn's arc was terrible lmao. It was 100% they had no idea what to do with him so they made up a filler arc which didn't matter at all.
Disagree with this. It wasn't as great as other storylines, but it added a lot to the overall universe. It was essential to the end of the story. It showed how the rebellion isn't built on jedi, but on showing kindness. Rose & Finn showing kindness to the little kid was essential to show how they'd rebuild. It was a whole theme of the movie to show this. The kindness shown towards the little boy. Because he saw how jedi and the rebellion in action they can see that there's hope in the world, and something else than cruelty, which is the only thing the first order and the empire has ever shown people. This is such a huge theme in Rebels and the extended canon and it was about time it was introduced to the movies.
It might not have been the best thing about the movie, but to call it filler seems plain wrong.
Rey was great.
Luke was easily the best part of the film. That scene where he was walking out of the door had me
Also his death was so satisfying. Still made me sad. Hope he returns in the form of yoda/obi wan from time to time.
Absolutely no chance he doesn't return as a force ghost to teach Rey.
Speaking of which. Marked the *bleep* out when Yoda came Unreal cameo.
I can see why people didn't like it. But it's mainly hardcore star war fans who would shit on it because the director wanted to take the story elsewhere. Other than that, it was a good watch. Not better than Rogue one but better than TFA.
7.9/10

That kid right at the end used force. Did he get it because he was born in it or did he get it because luke died?
- Spoiler:
- He has always had it. He probably doesn't realize how special he is given how casually he actually used the force to pick up the broom. It was to show that, as I wrote before, that if you act out of kindness and love there's always hope. The force doesn't die with the jedi.

Actually liked the movie a lot, loved the "everyone can be a hero" and lineages don't matter, the Kylo Ren-Snoke story was brilliant, the Luke-Rey scenes were fantastic, the Finn... never mind that one sucked. I hated Rose or whatever she was named, when Finn was ready to sacrifice himself for the cause and that selfish bitch comes out of nowhere and has hundreds of people die because of her actions plus put the whole rebellion at risk. If Luke doesn't show up, everyone's basically *bleep*. Well done, bitch.
Didn't like some of the forced comedy, felt very Marvel/superhero-ish and not fitting with the spirit of the original Star Wars movies.
Storywise it's the best SW movie since Empire imo.

The humour actually gets better once you re-think it. Initially had a problem with the humour in the opening scene, but it felt somewhat true to Han's humour in A New Hope where he speaks over the com when he's in Stormtrooper outfit. It also fits with the humour Poe Dameron has had in TFA when he was captured by Kylo Ren "who talks first, you talk first? I talk first?"
I think Star Wars always had contemporary humour tbh. It's just that the humour has evolved since the good films in the 70's and 80's. Makes sense that the humour evolved over those 30+ years, because they've done the same in our world.
The Finn storyline is still not great. Loved the thematics and idea of it, but felt it was not tight enough and somehwat clumsy. But the thematics were incredible and added to the overall film.
It's weird a storyline that doesn't really fit, can somehow enhance the whole thing thematically. I think it's the weak part of the film, but it would have made everything else worse, if it wasn't in the film.
Can't wait to see how JJ finishes this one. About time he gets a chance to finish something.

Walked out of the theatre after like half an hour and went drinking instead.
It was really really bad.
But because I like Star Wars I will give it another chance at home because I think something was wrong with the projector and everything was dark and may have corrupted my viewing.

Have you read this? Suns up what I felt and been trying to write but way better written. Think it’s a great argument for the movie without dismissing the people that don’t like the movie.

Much higher than that tbh. The average filmgoer liked it and gave it an A cinemascore. They’re incredibly easy to please overall. They don’t see movies as their whole lives.
This quote by Roger Ebert describes the whole thing so well and why it is so toxic:

I agree with that completely.
if TLJ was a rehash of Empire strikes back, fanboys would have given it 95% min. They didn't like it because it was too different for them.

Think you probably wanted to tag RG?
Personally I think the movie was decent but not more which is mostly down to me not liking the whole Finn arc. In fact I think it's complete trash lol (yeah I read what you said about it).
Never really got why people cared so much about Reys parentage though and certainly don't think it's bad to make Luke flawed. Btw his flaw was actually failing to kill Ben.
Also I wanted a proper lightsaber duel and got nothing. Unacceptable.

Anyone else got really sad seeing Chewie without Han most of the time?
Although I loved his scenes (my fav all time star wars character) but it's like seeing Arsenal without Arsene. Upsetting

Lol it wasn't me, I loved the movie. I did say Rian undid what JJ intended from TFA, which I still stand by even though I agree with that article that it was for the best. Another interesting thing about that article is that it answers my biggest problem with this trilogy as a whole, which is that in 30 years all of the OT work was undone and we got right back to where we started. The article makes an interesting point, which is that
- Spoiler:
- TLJ shows us the work was undone because the Jedi/the old ways in general are fundamentally flawed, and for lasting peace the new generation would have to come up with something new. Very interesting argument and makes me appreciate TLJ more.

Saw the movie last night.
I came out of the theater and I didn't really know how to feel. I thought it was amazingly well done but there were some small things that bothered me
Then I came here and read brother feeza's posts and the link he had left from slashfilms and it actually made some sense
My thoughts:

Then I came here and read brother feeza's posts and the link he had left from slashfilms and it actually made some sense
My thoughts:
- Spoiler:
- -Leia in space? What was this
-Snope being a nobody
-Luke being a bitch for 2/3rds of the movie until Yoda hits him with a few lines like Tom as your wingman at a club
-Rey just being her usual whiny self
-So much happened but nothing happened? Like what has really changed since the first film. Han's death was still the biggest and most powerful scene of the two movies, in my opinion
-What will be the third one now? Is Kylo to lead the First Order? Is this all just leading up to one final battle with Rey?
What I loved is it did its best not to be predictable. Snope dying so quickly and inconsequentially. That scene with Kylo/Ren against the guards was unreal. Also, things like trying to disable the tracker only to have it backfire- rather than the usual "we made it just in time" scenario that you'll always see.
Maybe its better this one didn't end with a cliffhanger like the first one but seriously, what is the plan for the third movie? Freeza, please respond

Re: Star Wars – Official Canon Thread. - RIP Carrie Fisher
- Spoiler:
- Without going into detail atm I loved the movie, even if I'd have kept Snoke alive I guess it was a very well done shock.
It's hilarious how they introduced maybe the most powerful force user in the series and killed him off without ever telling us anything whatsoever.
Finns side quest was so redundant it was unreal, pls no.
Kylo was awesome in this movie, great acting and great character development. He went from being utterly humiliated at the beginning to full on psycho Supreme leader at the end.
When he ordered everybody to fire on Luke Doesn't give a shit about a fancy standoff. Lad.
Also, managing to trick somebody who's literally inside his head is some great stuff.
The red throne room was my favourite aesthetic from the entire star wars universe. Unreal. And the fight that followed was amazing.
Now complaints wise.
Luke should have done some damage with a lightsaber. We all waited years, they should have given us that.
Too much comedy relief, the comedy was better in TFA, less of it and better timing too.
Rose was such an unbelievably generic waste of time it hurt.
Her sister >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Snokes scenes were amazing, he should have had more screen time.
Not enought saber action. period. Didn't need an episode 3 style bonanza but as it stands we're now 2/3rds into the trilogy and we've had one sort of half deas kylo vs rey force user battle, and the one vs the praetorian guards. So will Kylo even get his big win before getting overcome by Rey? Assuming that's what happens.
And now that Luke and Snoke are gone, the potential for actual lightsaber fights is pretty much between 2 people at this point in time.
Thankfully they teased a new generation of force users so if not in this trilogy, in future ones I hope to see something similar to the prequels with dark and light side force users abundant (Not necessarily sith or Jedi, as Kylo said "Let the past die" etc)
because we've now had episode 4-9 (Probably) where force users are almost non-existent. It's time to introduce a lot of them at once to keep things fresh imo.
P.S Shoutout to the dreadnought captain, he was awesome.
A proper gritty army veteran character. He made the first order far more threatening in his short time alone.
Also, the visuals in this movie were amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Re: Star Wars – Official Canon Thread. - RIP Carrie Fisher
Just watched it.
- Spoiler:
- I'm so damn conflicted, on one hand I really enjoyed Kylo Ren's development whose a great character with grey aspects which is hard to do.
By that same token I enjoyed the exchange between Kylo and Rey as well Luke Skywalker who was fantastic in this film it's just a shame he received such little screen time.
On to the things I didn't like, for starters I hated the Finn and Rose storyline which I found largely pointless and speaking of pointless some of the deaths made no damn sense.
Seriously what's the point in killing off Snoke in 5 minutes, just feels like Maul all over again with the villain is killed before the audience can get invested.
Killing off Phasma also seems utterly pointless, at least I assume she died anyway. Honestly this film felt like it tried spring far too many storylines together and in the end it just felt really messy.
I don't remember a film that I felt so conflicted about in recent memory, I genuinely do like a lot of aspects to it and there's some great performances but there's some really strange decisions which prevented from being so much more.
